The treatment

An Ovabloc treatment does not require hospital admittance or surgery. There is no need for general anaesthesia either. You are treated as an outpatient.

You may sometimes receive a local anaesthetic just before the treatment. You will hardly feel anything.

The gynaecologist examines the womb using a hysteroscope (thin tube with mini-camera), which is simply inserted via the vagina.

The catheter is then inserted in the same way, causing the Ovabloc substance to enter the Fallopian tube.

The substance solidifies into a soft flexible plug within a couple of minutes, completing the sterilisation. This plug prevents egg and sperm cells from joining together.

Of course, Ovabloc is inserted into both Fallopian tubes.

You can follow everything on the monitor if you wish.

The sterilisation is followed-up by an X-ray to provide 100% certainty of correct positioning.

You can leave the hospital immediately after the treatment and will be able to resume your daily activities straight away.

A second X-ray is made approximately three months after the positioning. If everything is still okay, you can be sure that Ovabloc is working effectively. We advise you to use other types of contraceptives until the second check has been performed.
